Topological Optimization with Frames and Nodes

Topological optimization always produces the most beautiful structures but they are unbuildable. I'd like to build an optimization algorithm that uses frames and nodes instead, therefore having some inherent fabrication intelligence, but with such a degree of freedom in the solution space that it should find similar results to a Michel truss / topological optimization. So the project includes a smart way of defining the solution space and It would require a fast, preferably local/internal, strain analysis engine. Geogym or Millipede could perhaps be used as a start but our own custom engine would be preferable.
